Ecuador volcano's deadly eruption

The Tungurahua volcano, located about 130km (80 miles) south of the capital Quito, began erupting on Wednesday 16th August and activity intensified overnight.

The broad shield volcano of Sierra Negra at the southern end of Isabela Island contains a shallow 7 x 10.5 km caldera that is the largest in the Galápagos Islands. The 1490-m-high volcano is elongated in a NNE direction.

Eruption of Sierra Negra volcano 22 October 2005

A source from the Galapagos National Park reported that Sierra Negra volcano , located at Isabela Island, erupted yesterday at 17h30 local time (+6h GMT). Two lava flows reached Elizabeth bay, an inhabited area close to the volcano. An ash column estimated between 20 to 30 km high was also
reported.

The basaltic-to-dacitic Garbuna volcano group consists of three volcanic peaks, Krummel, Garbuna, and Welcker. They are located along a 7-km N-S line above a shield-like foundation at the southern end of the Willaumez Peninsula.

Hundreds die in South Asia quake

A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake reduced villages to rubble in Pakistan and India on Saturday, killing hundreds of people. Pakistan's army described the damage as widespread and said it included villages buried in quake-induced landslides.

Pakistan says more than 1,000 may have died in a powerful quake that also hit north India and Afghanistan and wiped out whole villages in Kashmir.

Offshore earthquake shakes coast

The tremor was rattled windows along the coast
An earthquake under the sea has shaken buildings in parts of the South West. The Britishl Geological Survey recorded the earthquake taking place just after 1530 BST on Wednesday.
